Happy New Year… resolutions

I took this picture of London on my way back to Germany visiting family and friends over Christmas. On the flight back I thought a little about the past year and realised how much change happened. Some of it was planned and some of it just happened. But none of it happened because of a new years resolution. So I was wondering how important it is to have a new years resolution?

Well, in my case I would say the new years resolution needs to be simple and achievable. So I decided to do more weight lifting. And that’s basically it. And to make sure I am doing it, I booked personal training sessions. And my first session will start in about an hour. YAAY!

I think resolutions are generally good… but you should try to keep them to yourself. I heard a TED talk about resolutions/plans and they found out that the more people you tell about your plans, the less likely they are to come true. It seems people feel they have already done half the work just by announcing then lose motivation to actually carry through.

And YES, things often turn out WAY differently than we plan. That’s one thing that always surprised me at New Year’s.

We miss you in Berlin! :)
